I really wanted to pass my driving test, I needed the independence, but I have always been nervous. The Wimbledon Driving School instructor put me at ease
immediately. Fully trained by the AA, he was calm and patient and that helped me not to panic, even at the beginning when everything seems so tricky. Passing the test has really helped my self confidence’.
Based upon the real experiences of a WDS pupil aged 17.
Driving Schools Wimbledon (SW19)Our driving school proudly serves the Wimbledon (SW19) area with automatic and manual driving lessons. The information below is intended to help you develop your driving skills further in the key driving competencies and has been provided by our DSA-licenced driving instructors. We hope you find it useful. Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping This subject could be covered very well down Parkside Gardens. Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions WDS recommend doing a circuit which starts on Parkside Gardens emerges left on to Parkside Avenue, which then becomes Peek Crescent. At the end of Peek Crescent we turn left on to Marryat Road. Then instruct the learner to turn right on to Burghley Road. At the end of Burghley Road we emerge left on to Church Road and then turn left on to Somerset Road. Then we would instruct the learner to turn left on to Marryat Road and right on to Burghley Road. Then we can turn left on to Calonne Road and then left back on to Parkside Gardens. This allows the learner to practice steering, MSPSL and Peep and Creep techniques. Crossroads The intersection of Burghley Road and Marryat Road can be used to illustrate priorities and the extra observation applied at crossroads. The crossroads of Durnsford Road, Haydons Road, Plough Lane and Gap Road can be used to provide instruction on the methods of turning right-to-right at a crossroads. Roundabouts The roundabout by Belvedere Grove, Ridgeway, Wimbledon Hill Road and Wimbledon High Street is useful to illustrate priorities and the correct observation and planning required. For a big three lane roundabout try Tibbets roundabout. Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals Driving down Wimbledon Hill Road into The Broadway you can demonstrate the various different types of crossings and the rules applying to road markings. Planning issues can also be addressed on this route. Areas to do manoeuvres The corner of Deepdale and Margin Drive can be used for reverse around a corner. Parallel parking and turn in the road can be carried out on Parkside Gardens. Local test centres
