it useful.
Areas to do controls/Moving off & Stopping
It is best to start this subject on a quiet road like Sispara
Gardens.
Left/Right turns and emerging at T-Junctions
WDS recommend doing a circuit which starts on Melrose Road,
turns left on to West Hill Road, takes the left on to Viewfield Road
and then takes the second left on to Seymour Road. At the end
of Seymour Road we can turn left on to Wimbledon Park Road
and then shortly afterwards take the left on to West Hill
Road. After emerging we can take the first right on to the
slip road which is half West Hill Road but then
becomes Wimbledon Park Road. At the end of this road we can turn right
back on to Wimbledon Park Road. Then if we go ahead at the crossroads
over West Hill Road to the other side of Wimbledon Park Road
and take the first right on to Seymour Road. At the end of the road we
can turn right on to Viewfield Road and then right back on to Melrose
Road. This allows the learner to practice steering, MSPSL and Peep and
Creep techniques..
Crossroads
The crossroads of Gressenhall Road and Melrose Road can be
used to illustrate priorities and the extra observation applied at
crossroads. The intersection of Kimber Road, Swaffield Road
and Garratt Lane can be used to provide instruction on the methods of
turning right-to-right at a crossroads.
Roundabouts
The roundabout by Wimbledon Park Road and Granville Road is
useful to illustrate priorities and the appropriate signals for a given
exit. For a big three lane roundabout try Tibbets roundabout.
Pedestrian Crossings and use of Signals
Driving down Garratt Lane, Trinity Road or Merton Road there
are plenty of crossings which can be used to demonstrate the various
different types of crossings and the rules applying to road markings.
Planning issues can also be addressed on these routes.
Areas to do manoeuvres
The corner of Wimbledon Park Road and Melrose Road can be used
for a left reverse. Parking can be done down Melrose Road. The turn in
the road exercise can also be done down Melrose Road.

‘I really wanted to pass my driving test, I needed the independence, but I have always been nervous. The Wimbledon Driving School instructor put me at ease immediately. Fully trained by the AA, he was calm and patient and that helped me not to panic, even at the beginning when everything seems so tricky. Passing the test has really helped my self confidence’.
